Background

ABOUT
CLIENT

Three childhood friends from Jönköping—John, an economist, Peter, an experienced chef, and George, an event industry veteran—have come together at 35 to open a pizza bar in Tändsticksområdet. Their venue will seat 60 guests, with space for 400 at the bar and stage area. Their goal is to offer top-quality pizzas, local microbrews, and host quiz nights, live music, and comedy for a 25- to 40-year-old crowd.

At Food’n Mood, you can experience an authentic, lively atmosphere with delicious pizza, quality beers, live music, and stand-up comedy. Their menu centers around Neapolitan-style pizzas, crafted with the finest ingredients. Local microbrewery "Tändstickans Bryggeri" provides the beer, including two special brews developed in collaboration with the brewery.

discovery

To support their ambitions, they need a website that allows customers to order food online, book tables, and purchase event tickets. They’re looking for a punk, skate, and DIY aesthetic, with a touch of mystery.

Balancing the dual nature of Food'n Mood—a restaurant and a live performance venue—while maintaining a DIY, punk-skate vibe presents a unique design challenge. The website needs to be user-friendly, allowing visitors to order pizza, book a table, buy tickets, and sign up for events like their music quiz.

For the design, I took inspiration from punk posters, using a gritty monochrome color scheme with accents of bold, rough colors. Fonts were chosen to evoke a punk atmosphere, mixing script and typewriter-style mono fonts to enhance the DIY aesthetic. Illustrations were intentionally minimal, featuring monkeys in ski masks for a sense of mystery, and please don't ask me how I came up with that idea. (It looks awesome tho). Animations were kept raw, resembling homemade GIFs with few frames, adding to the DIY feel.

To connect the visuals to the pizza theme, I designed a checkered pattern, inspired by my local childhood pizzeria. For the imagery, I wanted to capture the raw, noisy vibe of Food’n Mood’s wild nights, using Polaroid-style, gritty photos that emphasize the bold and edgy tone of the venue. I wanted the tonality in the copy to be bold and confident to match the kind of gritty and raw skate vibe.
